Observation, Planning and Assessment; and EYFS

You can see your child’s ‘Learning Journal’ at any
time and we hope that you’ll also add comments or observations about what
your child does at home.

Observation, Planning and Assessment

Our planning cycle starts with observing children at play to understand their current interests, development and learning and making notes about this. We also talk to you to find out what your
child can do and already knows as well as about the things your child likes to do at home. This enables us to plan appropriate activities which will form the ‘next steps’ in your child’s learning and development.

It’s important that we keep records of your child’s learning and development. Your child will have a record book called a ‘Learning Journal’ in which we will keep observations, photographs of your child
at play, planning sheets and a record of your child’s progress.

You can see your child’s Learning Journal at any time and we hope that you will also add comments
or observations about what your child does at home. You will be given your child’s ‘Learning Journal’ when he / she leaves nursery and you may want to share this with your child’s teacher when he / she starts school.
